Northstar Clean Technologies - Asphalt Shingle Recycling
Northstar Clean Technologies (Northstar) has developed a proprietary, patented process to process end-of-life asphalt shingles and extract liquid asphalt for use in new hot mix asphalt, shingle manufacturing and asphalt flat roof systems, as well as aggregate and fiber for use in construction products and other industrial applications
The end-of-life shingles would otherwise be destined for over-crowded landfills. Keeping end-of-life asphalt shingles from becoming waste materials and reducing the use of virgin materials contributes to a reduction in overall energy consumption in the asphalt shingle manufacturing process.

Calgary Scale-up Facility
After successful pilot plant operations in Delta, BC, construction is underway for Northstar’s first commercial scale-up facility in Calgary, Alberta. This first commercial scale plant is expected to process over 40,000 tonnes per year of waste shingles. The Calgary facility is fully financed with contributions from Business Development Bank of Canada and Emissions Reduction Alberta. Liquid asphalt sales are supported by a long-term, 100% offtake agreement with McAsphalt Industries, a wholly owned subsidiary of Colas Canada (subsidiary of Bouygues S.A.).
